Works

Clients supported

Across projects of different industries and sizes, I've handled everything from building the measurement foundation to improvement proposals.

Recruiting / Major job site

3 months to payback

Payback on a redesign worth tens of millions of yen cut to 3 months

As lead analyst, I set things up so the site could be compared before and after the redesign. By continually proposing fast PDCA cycles, the budget expected to take six months to recover was recovered in three.

Before/after comparison / Impact testing / Improvement proposals

Hotels and lodging / Annual revenue over ¥100 billion

Tableau Data integration and visualization

Integrated data from every property in the group and built a Tableau dashboard

Designed a data mart from multiple tables, including sales, bookings, guest counts and rate plans. I helped build an environment where the whole group's situation can be followed on a single screen.

Ecommerce / Tens of millions of yen in monthly sales

200% of prior year in a peak month

A month at 200% of the prior year through ongoing monitoring

I built the measurement foundation with additional GTM tracking and BigQuery integration, visualized it in Looker Studio (now Data Studio), and stayed with the team from prioritized proposals through implementation instructions.

E-commerce / Across multiple sites

A ⇄ B Cross-sell analysis

Analyzed how products are bought together to improve recommendations

Tested product affinity in both directions: "Do people who buy A also buy B?" and "What about from B to A?" Based on these two-way relationships, on-site ads and recommendation slots were reviewed.

Q&A

Questions I've handled

These are some of the questions I've received through monthly support and one-off consultations (18 in total). Only the industry is kept, and the details are generalized. Every one of them was asked at the "Is this even OK to ask?" stage, so feel free to get in touch.

The numbers don't match

ClinicWhy are booking conversions higher than actual bookings?

Tracking was set to "click on the confirm booking button," so it counted even when the form returned an error. I changed it to count only when an element that appears solely on the confirmation screen is shown.

Matching siteThe team has 100 inquiries, but GA4 shows 0?

The thank-you page URL used in the key event condition was different from the actual URL. I fixed the condition so inquiries are counted correctly.

CounselingLINE friend adds and Google Ads conversions are far apart

LINE counts people who arrived from that URL, while Google Ads counts only people who clicked the ad. I matched records one by one by date and time to pin down the conditions behind the gap.

Shopify storeGoogle Ads revenue doesn't match actual sales

Revenue was being recorded at "begin checkout," and purchase completion wasn't set as a goal. I made purchase completion the only event that carries revenue.

Tracking design and implementation

Fitness gymThe URL doesn't change and no event fires when the booking button is clicked

The booking form was inside an iframe on a different domain. I added GTM to the iframe as well, and where that still didn't work, had the vendor send a dataLayer event on completion.

Real estateWhat happens if we move the form to a marketing automation tool on another domain?

You can still track the thank-you page, but you lose sight of where converting visitors came from. Cross-domain tracking needs to be set up first.

Online education materials storeWe want to count which button on the landing page was clicked

I had unique class names added to each link and image, then tracked each button separately in GTM.

B2B training schoolShould click tracking fire on the click itself or when the next page loads?

Firing on the click also counts people who left without seeing the next page. If the only path is the button, tracking the next page load is enough and simpler to set up.

How to approach analysis

Real estateConversions suddenly dropped. Where do we start?

I look at site changes made around the same time and bounce rate by device. In this case, bounce rate jumped on smartphones only, right after the home page was changed.

Online education materials storeWhen sales drop, where should we look first?

Break it down by traffic channel into sessions, revenue and purchase rate. If the purchase rate hasn't changed, the issue is in the traffic, not on the site.

Online education materials storeHow do we analyze a drop in organic search?

Compare Search Console queries by landing page against the previous year and split them into "both ranking and impressions fell," "demand fell" and "only ranking fell." That tells you which pages to fix.

Aesthetic clinicWe want to know the entry pages for our ads

Page title dimensions include pages viewed later in the visit, so they don't show where people entered. Use the "Landing page" dimension.

Working with AI

Matching siteCan we see traffic from ChatGPT or Gemini?

You can see it in GA4's "AI Assistant" channel. Visits through apps and similar routes often aren't classified, so assume the real number is higher.

Matching siteWhat should we do to get recommended by AI?

Common factors include a structure machines can read easily, FAQs, and credibility through clearly cited sources. Decide on 20 to 30 questions you want to appear for, ask AI tools regularly, and measure the effect by the share of times you're mentioned.

Career supportCan generative AI write the comments in our monthly report?

It works if you set rules, such as giving it last month's delivered report as a model and having it label guesses as "hypotheses." A person still checks the result against the tables at the end.

BigQuery

B2BWhat are the benefits of connecting to BigQuery?

You avoid API limits, thresholds and sampling, and you can reproduce segments and past conversions in SQL. I make clear up front that you'll need someone who writes SQL and that usage-based charges apply.

E-commerce agencyWhat do we need to see LTV in BigQuery?

E-commerce tracking and the BigQuery link are prerequisites. To look at individual members, hash the login ID and send it as a user ID, then shape the data in SQL before connecting it to a dashboard.

E-commerce agencyWhy don't new and returning users add up to total users?

People who first visited within the period and came back are counted in both. GA4 also defines "new" differently for the dimension and the metric, so decide which one you'll use first.
